Fun Easter Traditions

Summary: Starting an Easter tradition can be fun. Use your imagination, and then choose something that you know will interest your family. If you want to start a tradition for Easter, just do it one Easter season, and remember to do it each season thereafter. Soon, your family will be reminding you to continue with it.

Perhaps part of your family Easter tradition is to meet at Grandma's house for an Easter dinner after having attended church together as a family. Or maybe you exchange Easter baskets and then go for a rollicking Easter egg hunt. Or perhaps you're starting your own family and want to start your own Easter traditions. Here are some fun Easter traditions that you might already have, or there may be some you'd like to start:

  • Easter egg hunt. Organize and plan an Easter egg hunt using dyed boiled eggs or prize-filled plastic eggs.
  • Family dinner. Invite family and friends for an Easter brunch or dinner.
  • Attend church together. Invite your entire family to attend one church service together, and then everyone could have dinner together at one house.
  • New clothes. Celebrate Easter by wearing a new outfit to church. If money is tight, revamp an old outfit and wear it as new.
  • Nature walk. Take your entire family to a local park and go on a nature walk, taking time to reflect upon the beauty of nature and the significance of life returning anew, and correlate that to Jesus rising from the tomb.
  • The Savior's life. Have a family discussion about the life of Jesus and why Easter is a celebration of life.
  • Decorate the house. In the weeks before Easter, start a tradition of decorating each room of the house with a reminder that Easter will soon be here.
  • Easter baskets. Have the whole family participate in making Easter baskets and dying eggs.
  • Easter hats and bonnets. Your younger children will have fun making Easter bonnets and decorating them with flowers, twigs, tiny stuffed animals, and small candies.

Some people don't know how to start a tradition. It's really very easy. Just do it, and then do it again each year thereafter. Just because no one in your family has ever done it before, doesn't mean that you can't start it in your own family!
