While it might be nice to keep your party on the simple side with cake and ice cream, it can be loads of fun to spice things up every once in a while. Themed parties are one of the best ways available for creating a truly unique experience. It is commonly known that children usually love to pretend. What may not be as widely known is that even adults like to play dress-up on occasion. • Time warp. To quote the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show, "Let's do the time warp again..." The idea is to choose your favorite era, time period or decade and have everyone dress up accordingly. For example, if you chose the 1950s, then you might have everything and everyone look like they came from the movie Grease. Other ideas for time periods could be the middle ages (Excalibur or Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves), classical (Clash of the Titans) and even the future (Star Wars or Star Trek). All that you need to do is just choose your favorite.
• Masque. The masque is more than a simple costume party. If you have ever seen some classic movies like Amadeus, or the feature-length movie Phantom of the Opera, then you have a rough idea of what a masque is. This is the "formal" costume ball of old. These can be an elegant and fun party theme for everyone, which helps to bring a hint of romance to our lives.
• Disco. One of the more fun, and yes maybe a little "campy," themes is to have a disco party. Simply have everyone who is attending your party dress as if they were on their way to a disco from the 1970s.
• Murder mystery. Finally, one of the all-time favorite theme parties may be based on the classic board game Clue. You can get packages for hosting a murder mystery at practically every game store in the country. While some are set in certain time periods and others are more open to personal preferences, they can all provide fantastic fun for a night or even a weekend.
