Family Party Games

Summary: One of the highlights of any family party is going to be the games everyone plays. Here are some great family party games that can help make your next family party one that everyone is going to enjoy.

When the party gets going, it can be easy for grown-ups to forget that children can become bored very easily. In fact, it is not uncommon at all for adults to not even think about entertaining children until the children get so bored that they have to create their own form of entertainment—which tends to be a tad destructive, as any parent can tell you.

Instead of waiting till the last minute to come up with something that can keep the kids occupied, why not have a few games planned out in advance. There are all kinds of games that you can have for your party, some of which could be for the entire family, adults only or possibly just for the kids. Here are a few that you can use to help you entertain your friends, family and kids at your next family function.

  • Cold weather games. In the northern hemisphere of the world when the Christmas holiday rolls around it also begins to snow. So if you are having a Christmas party or a New Years' party, why not take advantage of the snow and cold weather? Go outside and have competitions for who can build the best snow man. Maybe you could have an organized snow war (i.e., a really big snowball fight)? Once everyone has been outside for a while, simply come in and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or cider and recount your exploits with one another.
  • Warm weather games. If the weather is warm when you are having your party, why spend it locked up inside? Gather together a few items like footballs, soccer balls, baseballs and gloves and play some games. It can be loads of fun to play against each other.
  • Board and card games. Quite possibly one of the more traditional and endearing forms of party entertainment. Gather together a few of your families more favorite board games and invite some of your guests to play. Games like Monopoly, Risk, Uno, Phase 10, and Pit are all loads of fun, and can take up quite a bit of your time.
  • Video games. A new innovation in party games, video game systems are constantly becoming more and more of a social event. If your family and friends are into action games, then using such classics as the Halo trilogy or Star Wars Battlefronts series would be some of the best possible choices. If you like music and singing, then try some of the Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or Sing Star series. These games these allow everyone to get involved, and in fact are becoming more increasingly geared towards being viewed as a party game.
